In the laser cutting, marking and engraving industry, most investors focus their attention on the machine itself – its power, precision and speed. However, one element is often overlooked, yet it is crucial for production continuity, the cleanliness of the optics and – most importantly – the health of the operators. We are talking about the fume extraction and filtration system.

A premium-class device requires a premium approach

BOFA AD Oracle iQ This is no ordinary „industrial vacuum cleaner”. It is an advanced, intelligent device equipped with independent electronics, self-diagnostic systems and sophisticated airflow mechanics. It protects the workstation from toxic gases (VOCs) and submicron dust generated during laser processing.

It is precisely because of this responsibility that, We never use the „box-in-box” method” (i.e. immediate redirection of the parcel from the manufacturer to the end customer). Before dispatch, we unpack, set up and thoroughly test every unit.

Here are the 5 key stages of our verification process:

1. Checking the integrity of the housing and the sealing mechanism

BOFA systems use patented reverse air flow technology (Reverse Flow), which causes heavier particles to settle at the bottom of the filter chamber. For the system to operate at its stated capacity, the entire structure must be completely airtight.

During the first stage, our technicians check the following:

  • The condition of the neoprene seals around the filters.

  • The operation of the internal clamping mechanisms (lever arms).

  • Correct installation of the pre-filter DeepPleat DUO and the main filter (HEPA/Activated carbon).

Even a gap as small as a millimetre could allow unfiltered, contaminated air to bypass the filter layer and re-enter the room, or cause damage to the turbine.

2. Initial start-up and testing of the Auto-Voltage module

One of the greatest advantages of the AD Oracle iQ model is the use of a turbine with a Auto-Voltage Sensing. The device can automatically detect the mains voltage (within the range of 90–257 V) and adjust its operating parameters accordingly.

In our laboratory, we simulate the system’s connection to the mains and check whether the microprocessor correctly interprets the power supply parameters. We test the stability of the electronics during prolonged start-up.

3. Calibration and verification the iQ smart system

The service technician activates the built-in iQ control panel, checking that the OLED display is legible and that the on-board software is functioning correctly. The most important part of this stage is testing the functions Automatic Flow Control (Automatic Flow Control).

How do we test this? We simulate the gradual clogging of the filters by controlled restriction of the air flow. We observe whether the iQ system responds correctly – it should automatically increase the turbine speed to maintain the flow rate set by the operator (e.g. expressed in $m^3/h$). This means we know that the extractor fan will operate just as effectively at the customer’s premises, regardless of how worn the filter cartridges are.

If the device is fitted with the optional sensor VOC (volatile organic compounds), we subject it to a calibration test to ensure that it detects even the smallest traces of gases on the clean side.

The unit is then thoroughly cleaned, secured for transport (with the castors locked and the filters secured) and packed onto a pallet.
